About
Bowen Yard
F. Gilbert Bowen was a notable figure in Winter Haven and the entire citrus industry. He started working in the citrus groves at age 12 and later co-founded Bowen Brothers, Inc., which evolved from fruit brokerage to harvesting and grove management. Bowen funded research that introduced low-volume micro-irrigation to Florida and participated in numerous projects with the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. He was inducted into the Florida Citrus Hall of Fame.
Bowen’s success also led to a life of philanthropy in Winter Haven. He generously donated the Central Park land to the City of Winter Haven decades ago, and his legacy is enduring. The park and public spaces continue to be integral to our community as warm and welcoming places. Bowen Yard, developed by Six/Ten, honors the life of F. Gilbert Bowen.
